wall street journal online 04 by Articles Uncovered

I thought that getting a subscription to the Wall Street Journal online would save me time and money. You see, I am a business traveler. I go all around the world and do not always have time to receive my subscription at home. Ordering the online Wall Street Journal seemed like a logical choice. Even though it costs a lot of money unlike, say, the New York Times online, it still is cheaper than a print subscription.

It turns out that I'm better off coughing up the money to buy a print edition of the newspaper wherever I happen to be at the time. I never thought about how much pleasure it gives me just to flip through the pages of a newspaper. You really can't replace that. You can put all the text up on the Internet, and have all the information content available, but it is not the same. Reading the Wall Street Journal online is better than nothing, but not much. I consider myself efficient, but I still like to sit back with a newspaper. Having to hunch over a computer screen takes half the fun out of it. I guess it can still help me keep up on the business news that I need to read about, but it is just not the same thing.

There are some nice things about having access to the Wall Street Journal online, however. One of them is the forums. You get to talk to other readers and react to the articles that you have read. Another great advantage of the Wall Street Journal online is that information is updated several times a day. You do not have to wait for the next printing. You can hear breaking news when it becomes available. Still, with the volume of online newspapers available for free, it seems like a silly thing to pay money for. After all, I can get all the news that I need on the Internet for nothing. Why pay extra money for a version of something that I'm not going to enjoy? It seems foolish, if you ask me.

There are certain things that I like in an online newspaper, and they are different from the things that I like in print. I like concise information. I like straight to the point articles. I don't like a lot of analysis. What I like about the Wall Street Journal is that it has in-depth analysis of economic issues all over the world. Who wants to read all of that on the Internet? I have no use for the Wall Street Journal online.
