Countless adults, teens, and children go missing each and every year. This is not just a concern here in America, but a massive dilemma all over the world. Your first question is probably "Well, where do they all disappear to?" Contrary to popular belief, most of them leave/disappear on their own. They're called run-aways. As much as many people would like to say that they're all kidnapped or abducted, it's simply not true. When it comes down to it, the smallest fraction is taken by strangers. And when individuals are abducted, it's commonly by someone they already know. Furthermore, most kids who do go missing are typically found shortly there after. So I guess you could say that the assumptions about missing people are generally not to be trusted. Big surprise there.
You have to imagine the way our world works. Think of all the teenagers who're stuck in bad homes. It's not absurd to think they would run away in desperation of a better life. Then there are the throw-aways. Kids that parents decide not to take care of for some lame reason and simply pitch them to the curb. As sad as it sounds, it does indeed happen. Now, what about locating some of these individuals after they are gone? How can anyone get in touch with missing people in order to see if they're okay or require help? This is where the Internet comes into play. There are now databases to search for missing people. You can actually do a lot with a first and last name, and a social security number. If the individual has lived anywhere of used a card with their name on it, or even a cellular phone, it is tracked. The F.B.I. use computer systems all the time to track missing people.
Some missing people prefer not to be found. This generally means you won't find them. Pretty much anyone can change their name and acquire a new ID. At this point your chances of pinpointing missing people are slim to none. In the cases of child abductions, procedures are left up to the federal bureau of investigating. They have the best chance of finding a child in this massive world. And even they have difficulty doing so.
