attention deficit disorder 03 by Articles Uncovered

I swear, there are so many mental disorders now days. I often wonder if we're just making things up. Maybe some random medical scientist nut somewhere wants to achieve recognition, so he comes up with a new disorder that concerns children who play video games too much. It could be called excessive arcade syndrome. Hmm, maybe I should research that one on my own and get a Nobel Prize or something. Anyway, not to belittle some of the legitimate health issues out there, but you get the picture. Some are definitely a greater concern than others. So, what do you make of attention deficit disorder? This is an affliction I once believed to be absurd. You know, maybe something that only affects children. I questioned its validity because pretty much all children I ever met were hyper and lacked a decent attention span. However, then in college I met an adult who really had ADD.

My junior year of college, I met a 24 year old fellow that was the same year and major as myself. He came across as a cool and outgoing kind of guy. I thought, here's a buddy I can hang out with at times. Then during class I noticed something. The guy couldn't sit still. The entire class of 60 plus people was quiet except for the professor. Well, and this guy, who apparently grappled with attention deficit disorder. He just sat there bouncing his knee and tapping his pen on the desk. And it was really loud and obnoxious. For some reason it threw me back. Once I questioned him after class, he filled me in on his attention deficit disorder affliction and claimed he couldn't help it. Hmm, not much I could say about that.

Some individuals still believe that attention deficit disorder is an affliction that doesn't even exist. I have to disagree here. Especially after knowing someone who is burdened by it. In reality, at least 60 percent of children who express symptoms of attention deficit disorder carry them on to adulthood. This has been proven through routine studies. Some individuals just have a difficult time staying focused and sitting still. Learn more about attention deficit disorder and how many Americans it affects before jumping to conclusions like I originally did.
