Inmate information

The internet is an amazing source for any type of information that you are seeking. No matter what you?re searching for, you?re guaranteed to find more information that what you could ever have imagined. There are often times that information that should not be public can be easily found on the internet. For those who are familiar with the criminal justice system, either from personal experience or working in the field, inmate information can be easily obtained online. It would only make sense that inmate information be made publicly known, but in many ways, it isn?t always the best of ideas to put such information online.

Convicted criminals who have had high profile cases, such as Scott Peterson, end up with lots of fans who find out how to get in touch with him by accessing inmate information on the internet. He?s gotten both love and hate mail because of this. While he deserves to see all of the hate mail, allowing people to strike up a relationship or friendship with him while he?s behind bars, just strikes me as rather odd. Sure, they have their right to privacy and their right to having contact with others, as they are still people, but shouldn?t some of their privileges be taken away from them? Then, there are long lost friends and family members who want and need to get in touch with inmates for various reasons. For them, looking at inmate information helps them to get in touch with that individual for whatever reason necessary.

However, while putting basic inmate information online is helpful to local law enforcement and others who may need to search for someone, it can also go a bit too far. Photos are sometimes available for public viewing. Other branches of law enforcement may find that incredibly helpful, but individuals who find it fascinating to contact convicted criminals can get rather encouraged by the inmate information that is found online. Suddenly, they can see what an inmate looks like and want to contact them even more so than their curiosity already did steer them towards. More often than not, once a person is convicted and sentenced, they may be sent towards a different prison than what they originally had been held inside of. Once that change in location is made, the only way that some people may know how to find them would be to research some inmate information online.

Of course, accessing prison and inmate information can also help the general public know the rules and regulations when it comes to visiting a prison and inmates. Such knowledge can save some time, energy and trouble before a scheduled visit.
