I'm happy to say that I've been having one of my strongest years ever, financially speaking. My business efforts are just now starting to pay off, and I've made some very good stock and bond investments. As a result, I can finally do something that I haven't been able to do in a long time: save some money. Rather than just put all of my extra funds into the same bank where I do my checking, I've decided to shop around for the best savings account I can find.
Everybody probably has their own definition of what features the best savings account should have. For me, the criteria are very straightforward. I want to get a high interest rate without having to tie up a large balance for a long period of time. I also wanted to be able to withdraw my money at any time without having to pay penalties. I called a few banks in my area, but the best savings account from those institutions didn't offer competitive interest rates. I figured I had a better chance of finding the best savings account if I expanded my search to include online banks, so I got on the Internet to see what kind of terms were being offered there.
I found a couple of websites that showed side by side comparisons of the current interest rates and terms available at the largest financial institutions. This made it much easier for me to find the best savings account based on the criteria that I set forth for myself.
Once I identified the best savings account for my needs, I went to the bank's website to find out more about specific terms and conditions. I had never heard of this particular bank before, so before giving them my money, I wanted to find out as much about them as possible. Just because they were offering the best savings account, that doesn't mean I should sign up with no questions asked. I wanted to make sure that my deposit would be FDIC insured and that the bank had a good reputation among its customers. Only then would I take advantage of the best savings account online and remit my funds.
It turns out that the bank in question was indeed FDIC insured and had a fantastic long-standing reputation. I sent in my application, was approved, and am now enjoying the wonders of compound interest thanks to the best savings account around. I don't mind working hard for my money, but it's just so much nicer when it grows passively like this! I sure am glad I didn't settle for the rates offered by my local banks but instead kept shopping until I found the best savings account online.
