The Mario Power Tennis game for game cube is one of the most anxiously awaited games to date. The reason is that Nintendo fans are die hard fans. They love Nintendo's cast of characters, including Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and all of the other funny critters dating all the way back to the first Mario Brothers. Mario Power Tennis for Gamecube is just the latest installation in a long and highly successful Nintendo series, featuring a bunch of fun loving characters and interesting and exotic worlds.
As a parent, and an avid video game fan, I have to tip my hat to Nintendo. At a time when the market is totally dominated by first person shooters and the like, Nintendo continues to produce games like Mario Power Tennis, and do quite a good bit of business with them. As a gamer, I like Mario Power Tennis because it is not another one in an endless and monotonous string of shoot 'em ups that have been coming out ever since the original Castle Wolfenstein. But as a parent, I like the Mario Tennis Power game because it does not have the same violent and potentially traumatic message for my kids as all of those other games do. In Mario Power Tennis, and all of the other related games, you are not trying to kill your enemies, but simply to beat your opponents in competition. The feel of games like Mario Power Tennis and Mario Kart is lighter and much more fun than all of these anxiety filled war games that the companies can not get enough of in these days. So what you get is better written, more original games with a better message and a more positive psychological effect than all of the shooters. You can bet that I will be playing Mario Power Tennis with my kids, and that is a fact.
Of course, Mario Power Tennis does have its detractors. Some people think that the game play in Mario Power Tennis is not good, and that the look of the game is a bit too cartoonish. I think that both of these arguments are wrong. The game play is, of course, a matter of opinion, but as for the look of Mario Power Tennis, I think it is just great. I do not like the hyper-realistic games so popular today. If I wanted reality, I would be doing something else besides playing video games.
