When you are decorating with color you may feel a little intimidated by the many choices available. You also may be apprehensive about making a big commitment to the wrong shade. In order to make sure that you are moving in the right direction when it comes to decorating with color you may want to think in terms of cool and warm.

Cool colors are mostly associated tones like blue, grey and green. Blue is the fundamental color in the cool scheme so if you are not a fan of this particular hue then you may want to avoid decorating with color that falls in the cool spectrum. These colors are calming and they can make a room appear to be larger than it really is.

I chose to paint my daughters bedroom in a very light shade of blue. I love decorating in color but I didnt want to go too bold with the tone. There is a hint of blue on what initially appears to be white walls. The hue is very faint.

The ceiling in the small bedroom is painted a darker shade of blue because the ceilings are unusually high for such a tiny space. The slightly darker tone makes the ceiling appear to be a little lower than it is.

By choosing these two shades of blue I was not only decorating with color I was solving some structural challenges in the room. The odd shape of the room with its tiny area and relatively tall walls looked awkward. By decorating with color I was able to create the illusion of space while giving the room a cozy feel as well.

Adding details like brightly colored blue and white gingham curtains and some wonderful pillows really brings the whole look together. Who says blue is for boys? When it comes to decorating with color, anything goes.

In contrast, we have a huge master bedroom. This is simply because my daughters room is part of the original structure and the master bedroom is an addition. While I loved the roomy space I felt lost in the huge room. Decorating with color in the warm spectrum helped to create a nice, cozy space.

You have to be careful when decorating with color because different tones have different effects on us. Avoid red in the bedroom because this color can actually increase you heart and it is not conducive to sleep. I chose a nice balance instead. The bedroom is a magnificent shade of lavender.

No matter what your challenge you can overcome it by adding different hues. Decorating with color is fun and the results are amazing.
